Our mission is to provide circus education and opportunities for all in Ithaca, N.Y.
We invite individuals and groups from the Ithaca area to engage with circus as an art form and life tool through classes, workshops, performances, parties, camps, and more.
We believe in dedicated play, creative physicality and inclusive community.
Our vision for the future is true inclusivity. This means that everyone will feel welcome to join in at Circus Culture. It means that all people who take part will feel holistically supported and catered to based on their unique needs and experiences. Our whole community will know the circus is here for them, and here to stay.
We are aware that aiming to be truly inclusive requires a long term, never ending investment in our whole community - this is lifelong work. This includes supporting the fight against ableism, working towards anti-racisism, acknowledging that our space is on land stolen from the Cayuga Nation which is a part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, prioritizing equity and visibility for all body sizes, actively supporting the LGBTQI+ community, and connecting with community members who are undocumented immigrants. It involves a depth of understanding about intersectionality, the awareness that there are marginalized communities that our ignorance prevents us from including, and an admittance that we are not even close to true inclusion at this point in time. We must continually investigate our participation in oppressive capitalism and what our true impact is.
